Why are you people doing this? I have never seen more argumentative people in my life. Yes, I live in the real world. I think that every person lives in harm's way in this country, which has been permeated with liberalism, sexuality, drugs, rape, exploitation of children, murder and permissivness and the first time they underestimate the danger to them, may be their last. Whether they live in Mountain Brook, Detroit or Aruba they are in harm's way. The only "real" life experiences I have had regarding violence are those nights when I can not sleep thinking about a little nine year old girl who was buried alive only after she had been sexually molested for three days. I can not imagine what was going through that darling little heart. How about the most recent, the Groene children, you know the ones who saw their mother and friends shot to death, then they were abducted, the little girl lived but only after she had seen her brother sodomized and then murdered, the list is endless. Then there is my daughter-in-law, who simply went to Home Depot, only for a thug to jump in her car with her and at gun point ordered her to drive away. Luckily, just the week before, I had given her a book written by an FBI profiler. She read it and the advice given was to never, never pull away from a populated area if you have been abducted. She didn't, as she was pulling out she took off to the front of the store and began screaming for help. This did not happen in Aruba it was a town in Ohio similiar to the size and scope of Mountain Brook and incidentally, my DIL was also raised with privilege, but not stupid. I don't know where you live and it doesn't matter, but it is definitely the real world and you better get wise to it.
Toespi...if I may...
I agree with you that there are dangers out there. I know you are right about that. But, I think where this keeps getting off track is that we cannot assume that Natalee had the same awareness. Not everyone does. We can't apply what we know to the mindset of an 18 year old kid who may or may not have had any idea just how much danger is out there. To say oh, doesn't she have a TV? doesn't she watch the news?, etc. Maybe she watched Friends or MTV or The O.C. Not all young people keep up with the things that you and I keep up with.
You are right about the crime. Nobody says you aren't. But we cannot assume Natalee was as informed as you.
Swell rant. Um, was there a particular point, hon, or were you just needing to vent?
Toespi,
My man or Lady, you are preaching to the congregation and I am a Deacon. I do like your views on what you stand for in life. Our views as to the revolution promulgated by the left and corruption are on equal playing fields.
I am glad your daughter-in-law chose her correct action wisely. One who leaves with a perp in a kidnapping or car jacking has a very low chance of surviving. Your daughter-in-law (done good) and I hope the perp was caught/beaten severely for resisting arrest.
