Behavioral experts to interview van der Sloot over missing teen

CNN) -- The only suspect who remains jailed in connection with the disappearance of American teen Natalee Holloway in Aruba faces further questions Tuesday, authorities said.

Dutch behavioral specialists will interview 17-year-old Joran van der Sloot as investigators try to shed new light on the case more than two months after Holloway vanished on the Caribbean resort island off Venezuela.

Defense attorney Antonio Carlo said his client has said all he is going to say and does not know what more he can add.

Carlo said van der Sloot's parents have been visiting their son frequently. Van der Sloot is being held in the youth section of a prison facility, with access to newspapers and television.

"He's holding up," Carlo said.

Van der Sloot, son of an Aruban judge, will be taken to a police station for Tuesday's interview.

Dave Holloway, the missing teenager's father, said the family has had "22 different stories from this guy."

I've been trying to google a link for you about the 12 others missing or dead at sea. Of which, I believe 8 were on Carnival.

All I could find were 'tips on security' which might as well have been disclaimers for the cruise lines! ARGH!

to be fair, I think a lot of people who go missing from cruise ships are jumpers, or fall accidentally. There was a local woman who disappeared from a ship a year or so ago. There was no sign of foul play, no evidence of suicide. In the end, her family will never know.

While looking for the item about 12 people missing/dead on cruise ships, I found that there are several items about the mistreatment of the staff on board. Many don't renew after the first contract.

Security tips included the nod that rapes 'do occur' and 'don't take strangers back to your room after drinking.' Gee, ya think?

ORANJESTAD, Aruba – On Monday a group from Texas used dogs to search land surrounding the home of a Dutch youth detained over an Alabama teen's disappearance.

Officials with Texas EquuSearch say two dog teams were led around the properties surrounding the house of 17-year-old Joran van der Sloot.

A specialist used ground-penetrating radar to check if anything had been buried in the area.

Spokesman Joe Huston said the group found no clues into the disappearance of Natalee Holloway, 18.

Huston said van der Sloot's neighbors gave the group permission to search, but they did not enter the van der Sloot property.

The van der Sloot home was searched by Aruban police and forensic scientists in June, but authorities have never released details of information gathered.

Holloway has been missing since May 30.

Natalee Probers At Suspect's Home

(CBS) The search in Aruba for missing Alabama teenager Natalee Holloway centered Monday on the property around the house of the main suspect in her disappearance.

Teams of volunteers used dogs and high-tech ground radar to scour the area, reports CBS News Correspondent Kelly Cobiella on The Early Show.

Among the places gone over: a septic tank next to the home of Joran van der Sloot, the main suspect and only one still being held in Holloway's disappearance.

But Joe Houston, director of the Texas firm EquuSearch, says they found "nothing of interest, so basically (we) eliminated another area."

A drained pond's been crossed off the list, too. Investigators were hoping to find some hint of Holloway there.

Those, notes Cobiella, are the best leads they have. Hundreds of searches, by local police, Dutch marines, the FBI and, at one point, the entire island, and even Holloway's mother's heart-wrenching pleas, have yielded nothing.

All anyone knows for sure, Cobiella observes, is that Holloway left a bar with three young men the night of May 30th and, if you believe van der Sloot's story, even he's in the dark.

Says Anita van der Sloot, Joran's mother, "He says, 'Mom, I dropped the girl at the beach. I walked with her on the beach. I left her because she wanted to stay there. I left and I don't know what happened … but the truth will come out.' "

It hasn't yet, remarks Cobiella, and after 63 days, many on the island are starting to wonder if it ever will.

My guess is that this is in case JVDS is found guilty. They will determine that what he did was not really his fault, but was due to his being weaned too early or some such rubbish.

This is what I mean. It's a common sense approach to caring for one's own safety. I have seen people so toasted on these ships, they make easy targets for all kinds of malfeasance. It is also not unheard of for women to proposition crew members, many of whom are very attractive. Not my cup of tea, but it happens.

I have no reason to think that the cruise ships' missing persons are connected. But I have no reason to believe they aren't.

If there is any human trafficking going on, it seems plausible to me that investigating others missing at sea makes sense. Two per year for the last six years are staggering. And that's not counting the rapes!

That lie about she wanted to stay on the beach is just too much for any sane person to believe. That makes absolutely no sense whatsoever.

I would like to see some statistics. How many cruise ships are in operation? (200) How many trips? (1000) Number of passengers for the period in question (2,000 per trip)

12 misadventures is not a lot out of possibly 1/2 million travelers. Some of whom may have missed the boat at one of the excursion ports (it happened on our cruise). Some may not have checked out or back in through security.

Also remember, exotic places do strange things to fragile minds. It happened to Ms. Wilbanks in Georgia.
