I've posted some articles in the last couple days and will be analyzing returns tonight. Turnout is much higher than the primary and that probably bodes well for Schmidt. Take a look here, here and here.

The special election results will get posted here. Go to Election Results on the upper left and go to Real Time Results on the drop-down menu.

When do the polls close, and how soon before we have most of the EDs reportinmg?

Polls close at 7:30 Eastern. If last month's primary is any indication, and it is, then results should start rolling in shortly there after with most of the precincts reporting by 10 p.m. at the latest.

In a district this GOP, I doubt there will be any, but if there are they'd be in Hamilton county.

I would suggest checking out the local media sites, e.g., the Cincinnati TV stations, and Cincinnati Enquirer/Post.

I believe that site will just give you Hamilton County numbers, and not numbers for the rest of the counties in the district. That is my recollection from the primary.

But are the RINO antics of Voinvich and DeWine going to influence Republicans to stay at home in this important race?

The closer to regular election turnout we get, the deeper the hole is for Hackett.

I agree. But all we've got to go on right now is some generic "turnout is higher than anticipated" statement relating to a special election.

Uh hackett(D) is running as the RINO(read the thread).

Also dewine's son lost badly in the primary for this seat.

Thanks for that analysis, Dales. I've been making precisely the same point to a friend who believes that high turnout will favor Hackett.

Who's the source?

"You know, we've got a lot of volunteer apathy in that district, really all over the state. People are worn out," said Jason Mauk, political director of the Ohio GOP

Plus the RNC (presumably) spent $300K on a negative ad, according to this article. Kind of unusual for such a safe district. Thread here.

By my figures, President George W. Bush won the 2nd District of Ohio with 62.30% of the vote:

Adams County 63.78% Bush
Brown County 63.58% Bush
Clermont County 70.67% Bush
Pike County 51.84% Bush
Scioto County 51.87% Bush
Warren County 72.06% Bush

Am I missing something. CNN said Bush won by over 70%.

Huge Blackwell supporter here (Miami, Champaign, Clark, Shelby)!
With politics being LOCAL, Hackett has made mistakes in the issues.
Folks are mad at his ad containing a picture of him and President Bush and then calling him a SOB.
Schmidt was also on "Hardball" and she kicked Gregory's butt.

Kirk's office confirms that he did NOT serve in Iraq. Looks like Schmidt's office screwed this up.

Hackett has a TV ad that shows him to be an ex-Marine who supports the war in Iraq, when the opposite is true. He also called Bush an SOB and a disgrace. Weirdo RAT!

He didn't. Maybe CNN meant that Portman won all his races with 70% or more.

It is very rare for a district to give a Republican 70+% for President. There are plenty of Democrat districts that one-sided.
