Water vapor builds up around an U.S. Navy F/A-18F Super Hornet as it breaks the sound
barrier during a fly-by near the aircraft carrier USS Kitty Hawk (CV 63) in this
military handout photo taken July 27, 2005. Kitty Hawk and embarked Carrier Air
Wing 5 are currently conducting operations in the Philippine Sea. The Hornet is
attached to Strike Fighter Squadron 102 of Naval Air Facility Atsugi, Japan. Kitty

I'll bet you wished you had your camera along to capture that spectacle. I sort of wish you had too (so you could scan it and share it with the rest of us!)
Those old "Buffs" are pretty amazing.

I had Uncle's camera along. I was there shooting an accident site, so I couldn't have taken either my camera or a photo of the Buffs. Darn it. It was amazing, indeed. Kinda scary, too. They were maybe 50 feet off the ground, and firewalled, about half a mile away or so. (hard to judge distances downhill, and particularly hard in the desert) It's also been something like 27 years ago, but I still remember it. It was definately a "WOW" moment.
