A similiar situation happened to me regarding the death of a smoker.

I was very close to a cousin and she died suddenly of a heart attack and I was devastated, When I was telling a neighbor she asked "Did she smoke?" When I answered "Yes" she just got a look of disgust on her face, made a "brush off" motion with her hand and said "Oh,well!" and changed the subject.

I was appalled !

It happens here from time to time, unfortunately. However, it's not a very popular thing to do; even when it's a smoker. We seem to have more allies than we know.

Frankly, I would never speak to that neighbor again. Would be a total waste of time as they revealed who they really are. Who would feel the need to show care and concern to such a callous neighbor?

I'm sorry for your loss...
and for your sorry excuse for a neighbor..
Really crass, that.
I'm a smoker, I don't encourage it...
But really..
Your neighbor exhibited boorish behavior..
