my aunt did this ...
she lost a lot of weight real quick, then had major kidney problems and diverticulitis. After hearing her troubles Doctor asked her, " So lemme guess, Atkins diet?" He'd been seeing it all over I guess.
I tried it myself for a bit, but i can't even follow simple diets, oh well, I still have good kidneys and colon...hehe
If you want to lose weight, eat a lil better, exercise a lil more.....amazing results guaranteed!
My elder brother and his wife did the Atkins diet for quite some time. After she stopped, she absolutely ballooned. Now she's on that diet where you eat nothing but foods made out of soy. He wound up having his first kidney stone at the relatively young age of 31. And he also became obese again after he stopped. But neither one of them ever exercises, so it's no wonder.
My biochemistry professor would spend significant amounts of time talking about the Atkins rage in his lectures on carbohydrate and fat metabolism. His bottom line was that, while the Atkins diet did work, it could create health problems if followed long-term, and was no more effective in the long run than a reasonable diet and exercise.
Everything in moderation, I guess.
I tried it, lost a ton of weight, and gained perfect colestorol levels, and enhanced muscle tone. Ever think you aunt may have done something else to get kidney trouble?
I tried it myself for a while, but it made me very squirrelly, mentally. So I abandoned it in favor of calorie-restriction.
I simply ate about 20% less calories than the calorie calculators said I needed to maintain my weight, and exercised like there was no tomorrow. I've lost more than 50 lbs and I'm still shrinking.
Effective, and no SquirrellyLaz.
My dad's cholesterol shot up 100 points in exactly one month that diet. His doc told him he'd seen countless similar cases, and to resume eating normally again immediately (although to add more fruits and veggies than he used to eat). His cholesterol returned to normal in 3 weeks.
