But Cary Grant was terribly insecure and did drugs in his later years.

My point was, that from the earliest times of theatre, actors and actresses were looked down upon and thought of as the scum of the earth; which sadly, most of the were. It's really only within the past 70 years, or so, that actors and actresses have been idolized by the general public.

True, he was insecure (but that's explained by his mother suddenly disappearing) and he did LSD while it was legal as part of psychotherapy in the 50s. And I agree with your point- it used to be a big bad deal to be an actor- have you ever seen The Awful Truth? there's a funny part in that movie with a woman that became an actress but had to change her name due to what her family would say. LOL
