Animals have zero rights and any attempt to give them rights is based on emotion rather than logic.

Not according to every state and municipality in this country, and all other developed countries. You might not like the fact that it is against the law to torture animals, but it does mean that it is illegal to be cruel to animals. Drowning is cruelty. I suppose your objection to these laws is because you believe it's OK to torture any animal, even for fun. After all, you believe that it's your "right" to cause harm. So I guess lighting an animal on fire is OK, or pulling its limbs off or whatever other kind of deviant treatment is all right in your eyes.

These same laws also govern scientific research. Minimum standards and research necessity must be demonstrated and there are regulations in place, even for lab rats.

Like I said in my previous post, you have absolutely no respect for any life beyond your own. I am not some animal rights, PETA type. But someone who at least has the decency to know it is wrong to be cruel to animals unnecessarily.

It is absolutely emotional. Governments make laws against cruelty to cute little doggie-woggies while livestock chickens and cows face a lifetime of being treated little better than Nazi concentration camp inmates. If you think a drowned dog has suffered even a fraction of what a cow faces every single day of its life you are moron. Its fools like you that give political power to the peta types to regulate and perhaps someday ban meat-eating because the logical holes in your anti-cruelty philosophy are large enough to fit galaxies through.

These same laws also govern scientific research. Minimum standards and research necessity must be demonstrated and there are regulations in place, even for lab rats.

Which increases the cost and dificulty of conducting such research. PEOPLE are dying because of these research rules.

Like I said in my previous post, you have absolutely no respect for any life beyond your own.

No, you are just an illogical, bleeding-heart liberal.
