Could it be possible that Sen Roberts is going to investigate whether Plame's covert status was improperly issued in order to set up this entire thing?

Just don't really know. If you think about it, two years of GJ testimony and so little has come out and for good reason it is supposed to be a secret. Really the only "sources" of GJ testimony have come from people seemingly sympathetic to the MSM's ideas. At times they seem very confident. I have no doubt that there was a coordinated effort on behalf of the Dems, MSM, and factions of the CIA , and maybe State to undermine this president. The big question remains "is this the angle that Fitzgerald is pursuing"? I don't really have a strong feeling either way. There are other possibilities, Oil for food American connections, other leaks, and yes it would be possible that during the in investigation her status if inappropriately given as part of a conspiracy would be investigated.

Personally I would feel a whole better if Durbin wasn't such a big supporter of Fitz. The only real question at this point may be just what angle is he pursuing. Free Republic has done an excellent job of revealing facts and time line but most of that is based on evidence gathered independently of GJ testimony. I have no idea if Fitzgerald going after the real crimes. Judy Miller should be tried for treason for tipping off a potential terrorist cell. This maybe the crux of the investigation but only time will tell.

I still would like to know just what her real status was/is at the CIA. I don't think that has been answered as a matter of fact.
