"Some of his biggest critics, surprisingly, are fellow South Carolina Republicans. They control both chambers of the legislature and have joined Democrats in blocking Sanford from moving much of his agenda--mainly spending cuts."
Not surprising. Many republicans love big government and pork just as much as the democrats do. Some even more.

And they can save even more by eliminating government pensions. Most of these are paid by workers in the private sector who have no pensions themselves. It's a bit Soviet if you ask me.

"The governor needs to take his medication," Jim Harrison, a GOP representative from Columbia, told the Greenville News. "It's going to be very, very hard to work with him after this," another Republican, Bob Leach, added. "I don't know if anything else will be accomplished at all."
...
Republican (and former Democrat) Verne Smith, a 33-year veteran of the state senate, told the News that Sanford's vetoes were "mean-spirited." "He's just in that mindset, kind of a libertarian mindset," he continued. "I know I'm going to try and override every dad-jim one of [his vetoes] because I don't have any spirit for him." Jim Harrison, RINO
Bob Leach, RINO
Verne Smith, RINO
We don't need RINOS in South Carolina. I'll vote against y'all if I can. Promise!

I like how groups like the club for growth and the cato institute are backing good guys like this. That is why I donate to these institutes, and to politicians which they recommend.

If the Dims end up with a conservative Southern governor as their candidate, it increases the chances that a Sanford could get the GOP nomination.
For conservatives, Hillary is a disaster, both for her intrinsic qualities (if she wins) and, even if she loses, she gives the porkbarreling big-goverment Republicans plenty of opportunity to look conservative even though it's obvious they're pro-government, pro-spending, pro-globalist, etc.
Sanford is like a breath of fresh air. And there are still some Republicans that do well but could use a leader, legislators like Shelby and Paul and Santorum and Hostettler and Musgrave and Tancredo, well, pretty much anyone in Liberty Caucus. On a good day, Tom DeLay.
There's still hope for the GOP as long as we have these folks. But every now and then, we need to put them into top leadership.

In both resume and beliefs, he is the perfect candidate. I hope he runs.
