Did you know that humans are mammals? As such they nourish their young with milk?

It is a shame that people are so far gone that they take offense at a woman's breast functioning as God intended.

She wasn't parading around the beach without a top or rolling around on the ground with someone else.

Don't stare at women who are breastfeeding in public that way you won't have any reason to be offended.

Oh, and even in an SUV or minivan, it is hard to nurse because of limited space. and don't dare suggest a woman should nurse in a filthy bathroom to stay out of public view, unless you were willing to eat your meal there...

Good for you. My wife is breast-feeding our son now and we haven't had any problems, yet. I don't understand why the natural act of a mother feeding her child offends so many people. It's incredible.

But rangers with binoculars were stationed on a cliff about 100 yards away...

These perverts should be arrested.

I'm guessing the park ranger was a very young male :-)

He'd have to be. Sakes...it sounds like the girls in bikinis were showing off more of their bosom than the woman who shieled her breast with two umbrellas, a towel and her infant's mouth.

It's like I've said all along...they're just nature's version of toy trains. (They're made for kids, but it's the dads who usually play with 'em.)

;o)

What a dweeb. I could almost understand his mistake if she was being very indiscriminate in a formal public place, which would still be legal, but this was a beach! Maybe the kid wasn’t nursing but she was just “hanging out” topless… Hard to believe that a professional could be that stupid otherwise.

Part of the problem is a culture that is still hostile to motherhood especially mothers who put their selfish desires aside in order to care for their children and develop intimate bonds between themselves and their children. I personally would not have married my wife if I knew she did not want to breastfeed. I think its a good test of whether a women will be a good mom or a vain childish little thing. I know some may take offense at this sentiment but if men especially were a little more interested in marrying those women who make good mothers and wives and less about marrying women who are useful for only entertainment value they might be happier overall and less stressed.

A mom was breastfeeding? Yuck! They should give the person she was breastfeeding on a ticket as well!

When Hannah took Samuel to the temple to give him to the Lord's service, was he only 10 months old with two teeth? Not exactly. The weaning of children in that era occurred between 3 and 5 years old. The temporary teeth children lose starting at age five used to be called their 'milk teeth'.

Until the last few centuries late weaning was the rule in many cultures. Children who have mother's milk as a part of their diet long-term, particularly in third world countries, gain more protection from malnutrition and severe illnesses.

Just trying to get number four to stop nursing. She REALLY doesn't want to quit, and as she is THE LAST BABY I am having trouble being ruthless. : )

I think it is ironic that a beach which is probably the most immodest place on earth outside of a strip club would become the site of a breastfeeding contraversy.

After having been to countless rock concerts and being harrassed by security for having (gasp) a camera (while surrounded by dozens of kids smoking dope -- an illicit drug -- in open view), I can see how this sort of lunacy gets started.

" This is just patently WRONG. She could have just as easily fed the baby in the privacy of her SUV. "

I think that complaint is NUTSs. But hey, that’s just "my" personal opinion.

I will never understand people who think that public breast-feeding is somehow lewd behavior, worthy of a ticket for INDECENT exposure. *eyes rolling madly*

Breast-feeding is a natural thing, and done discreetly (no need to flash everyone!) there shouldn't be an issue. However, at one year of age, I think that a child should at least be familiar with a sippy, and, if nothing else, is on a schedule for eating. Schedule activities around that, where possible. It's not that difficult.

This encourages future abuses, IMO

An apology is not a meaningful consequence. The flip side of the apology-demanding is the idea that being sorry, or acting sorry, is all that's necessary when a person has harmed another. There has to be an incentive for a person to change his behavior, or (if necessary) the person has to be forceably prevented from causing further harm. (Firing an incompetent employee, if necessary, would achieve this.)

For example, how often do we see articles where a lawyer says his DWI client is so terribly sorry about the people he killed - he's been punished enough, he shouldn't have to go to jail. Nonsense! Remorse is between the offender and God, but retribution or restraint is for the protection of society.

Do you make a demand the a waitress serve you in a Burka? Do you cover your face and head when your eating? If not, why don't you just order your food and set in your SUV and eat?

There's nothing "obscene" about a woman's breast and there's nothing about feeding a child in the manner God created that's offensive. Appears you can't see a woman's breast without sexual thoughts. Perhaps it's you that has a problem.

I'm nursing my 7th baby (18 months old) and really don't care about the breastfeeding aspect of this article. My issue is the coerced apology, which I think is both stupid and unproductive. (See my post 77.)
