FORT COLLINS, Colo. Never mind officials voiding a $50 ticket for indecent exposure, or an explanation from county officials that a ranger who issued the citation to the breast-feeding mother was inexperienced.
Dorian Ryan said she wants an apology for what she called a "humiliating and degrading" experience.
"This isn't right. Women shouldn't be harassed for breast-feeding their children," Dorian Ryan said.
Colorado lawmakers agree. A law passed last year gives women the right to breast feed anywhere she's allowed to be in public.
Ryan, 43, was ticketed for indecent exposure July 14 when she breast fed her son at the Carter Lake swim beach in Larimer County. She was shielded from view by two umbrellas and a towel.
An inexperienced park ranger mistakenly issued the ticket, said Dan Rieves, manager of the Blue Mountain District, which oversees the beach. Park officials have voided the ticket.
Rieves, who has been in contact with Ryan, said a written apology would be sent Friday.
If more people who made mistakes and caused anguish for someone would take the time to sincerely apologise, there would be fewer lawsuits, IMO.
Is that kid a little big for a one-year old? Plus she has man hands.
Oops - now that I've read the other article, I see she was trying to be discreet. Please disregard my comment about itching for a confrontation. :)
Look away.
That's a good size for a one year old!
That kid looks closer to 2 than 1.
I was a breastfeeding mom, and have you ever used a breast-pump??? they hurt, and they take forever. To get the effect, place a vacuum on your penis. Now leave it there for a half hour.
Why do some people have such a problem with nursing in public? AS LONG AS IT IS DONE DISCRETELY. I, and everyone I know, always nurse with covering, or in a nursing top so nothing is exposed. What is so wrong with that?
At one year the kid can eat real food. Time for solids and a sippy cup. I don't care if mom lays bare breasted on the beach and sprays milk into the air, the kid needs to learn to eat.
That should be the last "experience" that person has as a law enforcement officer.
I don't blame the mother. Breast feeding is natural and should be accepted as long as a reasonable amount of modesty is practiced. I think it is ironic that a beach which is probably the most immodest place on earth outside of a strip club would become the site of a breastfeeding contraversy. I personally believe that the move away from breast feeding and towards a non-parent culture was one of the first steps towards the increasingly the increasingly vain and selfish generations we see today.
An apology is common courtesy. She should have been apologized to without having to ask them for it.
We've lost a lot of our manners in this country.
Bwahahahaha!!
(From a mom who has either been nursing or pregnant or both for 11 out of the last 12 years)
Excuse me?
This moron does not deserve to be a cop.
You think with a name like Dante, you would know the hell of breastpumps. Newborns have to be fed every three hours, for up to 20 minutes at a time. This is time intensive. If one were to express milk, that would take an additional 20 minutes in addition to the time it takes to feed the baby. Not to mention that you have to keep the milk refrigerated, then reheated, but not in the microwave, because it ruins breastmilk. Plus bottles, washing, etc. Breastmilk is easier. It is already at serving temperature, it is fresh, you don't need a bottle. It is cheap, which is a good thing for us stay at home moms trying to get by on one income. It is handy, you don't have to lug about a bunch of stuff, you already have all of what you need with you. Did I mention that it is better for the baby? Not just the milk but the whole breastfeeding experience, which you can't get from a bottle.
soon it will be demanded by the enlightened masses that it be acceptible to crap in public; and anyone daring to issue a ticket for indecent exposure will be fired, demoted, sent to sensitivity training and publicly humiliated.
The kid looks like he's about ready for a steak....nature makes them grow teeth for a reason.
When you're in a reastaurant, try concentrating on what's happening at your own table.
What our culture needs to do is get over its obsession with breasts as sexual and realize that they have a practical use. In general naturally fed babies are healthier and benefit from a stronger maternal-child bond.
I discreetly fed 3 daughters in public in the seventies and eighties. Now mothers themselves, my daughters feed their babies in public discreetly. I would be extremely offended if one of them were ticketed as this young woman was (who was, if you cared to read the article, discreetly nursing).
