This article deserves some thoughtful comment. We have never won a war in the past without temporarily giving up some of our civil rights, and it is unlikely any democracy can win a real war in the future while retaining all the civil liberties of peacetime.

Rather than knee jerk rhetoric about slippery slopes, I think the author's final question deserves some serious thought.

This is the point many of us have been trying to make, despite the libertarians' misgivings. If we're dead, or living under the rule of some Talibanish imam, it's all moot, isn't it? It's tempting to paraphrase this author's comment for a tagline.

It's interesting how quickly civilized people will give up their freedoms when the disaster of terrorism becomes up close and personal. Another major attack on American soil will prove that point.

When that next attack happens the military, and government agencies, will be free of many of restrictions, and life for muslims, both here and abroad, will become a nightmare.

America is NO democracy..

A Democracy is-->>MOB RULE and so is Sharia Law.. little difference..

The only difference is in the MOBs that rule..
Actually every form of government ever invented, except the United States is MOB RULE..
Dictatorships are Mob Rule too.. as are any Democracy's..

The United States is unique among governments.. always has been..
Freedom is payed for by BLOOD, always.. Enacting laws does not insure or buy liberty.. Europe never learns.. the proof is in their democracy's.. They actually THINK Sharia law is MOB RULE but Democracy is NOT.. The gap between Sharia law and a Democracy is ONLY cosmetic..

Yes.. the United States will probably have to save URP's asses again..
Hopefully FROM their democracys this time.. There are three words contained NOWHERE in the Unites States Constitution..

1) Democracy..
2) Democratic..
3) and Democrat.. by design, its NOT an omission..

I think Mark Steyn said it best. The situation with the Islamists preaching hate being allowed to continue alongside with the tragic ineptness of the London police force's killing of Menezes is indicative of what problems the English are facing from their own beuracracy.
