Wrong again. Al D'Amato was a very, very shrewd politician in his day, an excellent tactician, and now he's one of the wealthiest lobbyists in the New York area. He may be a lot of things, but "doofus" is not one of them.

Yeah, but he was also always a doofus. The Claudia Cohen "I'm in love" press conference, the Judge Ito impersonations, the "Old MacDonald" signing on the Senate floor.

Were priceless.

Senator Al deserves credit for introducing the Whitewater hearings that spawned the independent counsel, which netted 17 convictions, including a sitting governor and a presidential impeachment.
