The guy that calls himself the bad astronomer was on C2CAM last night. Apparently, the Spanish team made an announcement, and the California team had to jump on the band wagon...and the result was announcements that totalled 3 "new" objects. One's bigger than Pluto, one's smaller, and I don't know about the third.
So, it depends on what announcement and object(s) you're talking about.
Why not run a world-wide contest to name any new planets? Wait....... A distant planet....and here we have all these people who need deporting? Coincidence? I don't think so!
