ROME, JULY 29, 2005 (Zenit.org).- China might soon become the most populous country of bachelors, reported a missionary of the Pontifical Institute of Foreign Missions.
Father Giancarlo Politi, speaking on Vatican Radio, said that the one-child policy, instituted to "maintain control over the population, so that it wouldn't grow enormously," favors the birth of boys among Chinese families.
"There is still a need to seek by all means to have at least a male child," said the priest.
As a result of the policy, instituted in 1979, an estimated 25 million young men in China might remain single for life.
"The family without heirs leaves the couple in a relationship of virtual sterility, also from the human and not just the procreative point of view," he said.
This policy is "truly inhuman," stated the missionary, in that it stipulates "compulsory abortion for those without permission to have a second child," said Father Politi.
Off the books
The policy has also "given origin to a practice of having children outside the law."
Many children are not registered in China. "It will not be possible to indicate the number because it will be speculation," said the priest.
Although families with money might be able to obtain the registration, "it is true that all those born without permission do not exist" legally, and are the target of blackmail "at many levels," he said.
He said the law was instituted to redress the effects of an earlier policy based on the motto: "'The more we are the better,' as this way we can face the enemy and win."

It's real. Try a google on "China Little Prince". The little prince syndrome was the first symptom. All of these only child boys being spoiled (because they were only child boys) were causing a real discipline problem for this generation of Chinese.

I've read that many of those man will go so far as to kidnap women from villages. It's a sad situation.

this is understated, most of the women I have talked to over there don't want to marry either.
Not exactly the plan if they've been reducing the size of their Army, which they have.
One additional problem they have is quite a few soldiers and Officers that have been RIFed as part of that reduction in total troop strength; granted, they're the less competent ones, but they do have a modicum of military training, and many are both unemployed and pissed off. That's never a good recipe.

I guess the constant torrent of nonsense about the Chinese military has basically made it impossible for people know any actual information.
The Chinese have been reducing their total troop strength so as to stop wasting money on worthless cannon fodder so they can spend more on advanced aircraft and naval vessels, forming a smaller, more technologically advanced force, in imitation of the US.
So, this means their surplus of single men isn't going anywhere near the Army.

A brilliant study of the disturbed mind, set in a blazing action scenario with plot twists and surprises at every turn. A very compassionate and insightful look inside the mind of an insane man, and a doomsday story par excellence! The principal character stays in the background for much of the story, although his actions and thoughts drive the story. His final fate is not at all what I expected.
His family is killed through the actions of the IRA, and, being a bio-geneticist, he concots a plague which targets only women. He intends for this plague to infest only Ireland, but it gets out of hand and infects the entire world. He becomes progressively more insane as the story advances, while eluding every attempt to capture him. The main plot deals with not only attempts to find and capture him, but several stories about how various men attempt to save their women.
It's a can't-put-down read...a thrill ride from start to finish.
Most women end up married & unavailable, so there will be 25 million men that do not marry & have a family. Unattached, unloved, needy and disassociated.
Sounds like a wilding resource pool to me. Or a war party.
