Is it an act of desecration if they are either destroyed and/or discarded?
We would probably disagree at what point 'real' life is created.

It comes down to this. I haven't heard the ardent pro-life groups take the position yet that all embryos created at fertility clinics have the right to be born. Maybe they have, and I just haven't heard it.
But if they aren't complaining about unused embryos being discarded, then what's the logical basis for complaining if they're being dissected and used for medical purposes?

A lot of people make that point and, until recently, it's always seemed valid to me. I attended a discussion in which the speaker made the following point:
Imagine a corn farmer has planted 100 acres of corn. After it grows to a height of about eight inches, some nut comes along and pulls it all up. The farmer takes him to court and the judge says, "That wasn't corn, just a bunch of small plants."

We would probably disagree at what point 'real' life is created. Compared to what? Video? CGI?
