not if it was underwater for a good period of time or buried in the ground under the water.

I'm not sure about that but assuming that it's true, there is still going to be a disparity on how the different materials (compost vs mud/ dirt) absorb & give up heat. And, for sure, bones won't have decomposed in two months' time.
