If you want to see what's actually going on over there, rent, or better yet, purchase "Gunner's Palace". I saw this at the theatre with my daughter and Son-in-law (both in the Army - Son-in-law recently returned from Djibouti). Both said it's a must-see documentary.

It was good, but anyone that extrapolates that all or even most of the troops there live like that would be mistaken.

Overall, if one were to imagine the Old West with forts and outposts where one had to risk Indian attacks on the wagon trains and pony express, and a few flaming arrows at the fort, one might gain some insight into the lifestyle Over There.
