‘It's about the Caliphate, stupid!’
1924.org ^ | July 2005 | 1924.org

Posted on 07/28/2005 2:51:14 PM PDT by LM_Guy

It's the word that politicians dare not publicly mention for several decades in the hope it was dead and buried in 1924.

Yet the issue has now emerged explicitly such that it is impossible not to mention it. Earlier this year a CIA think tank predicted the re-emergence of the Caliphate by 2020. Then on Saturday 16th July 2005 Tony Blair made a speech where he gave his definition of what he thinks are the end aims of what he calls the 'evil ideology' of Islamic extremism.

‘They demand the elimination of Israel; the withdrawal of all Westerners from Muslim countries, irrespective of the wishes of people and government; the establishment of effectively Taleban states and Sharia law in the Arab world en route to one caliphate of all Muslim nations.’

This has been the most open declaration so far that the War on Terror is a war to prevent the reestablishment of the Khilafah (the Caliphate). Hitherto, there has only been deceptive language about terrorism, WMD, and 'talebanisation'.

Yet he deceives the public because he will not say, and perhaps he has shut his mind to the fact, that the Caliphate is not simply the desire and aspiration of jihadi groups. Ask a Muslim who follows a Sufi Tareeqa if he or she wants to see the re-emergence of Khilafah Rashida and you may see tears of hope in their eyes. Muslims from the so called conservative brands of Islam in the Arabian Peninsula to the 'tiger economy' regions of Malaysia & Indonesia dream of the return of Khilafah. To reject this fact is to deny the obvious. Most, simply pray for its return; some try to work for it through existing systems; a small number think that fighting the existing oppressive rule is the way to see it established. But the largest group internationally works by non-violent political work to change the existing system via thought and opinion.

We ask all Muslims to express their positive views for Khilafah to all the people they meet so that a false impression does not get presented to the wider society that somehow Khilafah Rashida is associated with the negative stereotypes Blair hopes to associate with it. To desire Khilafah is not backward, extremist or terrorist.

It is the legitimate aspiration of the Muslim world for its own governance, sadly denied and obstructed by western governments and the puppet regimes they create and support. Many non Muslims are beginning to realise the injustice of their own government's foreign policy and we can lead the way in articulating clearer arguments.

It is not just about Palestine or Iraq, it is about the right of the Muslim world to govern itself in the way it wants, in a desire to please Allah. We pray all people must send a vocal message to Western colonial governments that their efforts to prevent this will only perpetuate misery, instability and insecurity in the whole world.

Yup.

All the rest of their "reasons" (the ones liberals blame us for) are merely excuses to hide the true goal.

The Caliphate was abolished by Turkey's founder Kemal Ataturk in 1923 when the Republic appeared in its place.

The Sultan of the Ottoman Empire held the title of Caliph of Islam most recently. Attaturk abolished the Caliphate in 1924.

I clicked on the link you provided and noticed that there is a "Khilafah" magazine coming out soon.

I wonder if Bush and Blair would like a subscription.

Thanks. I thought it might also have something to do with the carving up of the Ottoman Empire by the Europeans after WWI.

Who's stopping the Muslims from re-establishing the Caliphate? Nobody. If they want another caliph to be something like the Pope of Sunni Islam, they can get together and elect one any time they want. But if they mean by it a kind of religious super-dictator of the whole world, who will lead them in a new jihad to conquer the non-Muslim areas of the globe, they can forget it.

This sounds good until you start to ask who would this new Caliph be, what country is he from and where would the capital be? They will never agree because none of the "outs" will agree to lose power or be governed by another country.

They tried to create an "Arab nation" back in the '50's and 60's. Egypt, Syria and Iraq all adopted nearly the same flag. Only Egypt and Syria actually merged, and that only lasted a short time.

It just ain't gonna happen.

Any leader (with real political and military power) who does not have to answer to his/her people via some sort of regular election is a threat. In the world right now there is probably over 80 countries run by dictators. The UN's first and only mission should be to get rid of all these police state leaders.

Democracy is a wonderful thing. When these big ego guys get in charge they find that to stay in charge they have to keep their people fed and employed. If they spend too much time on hate speeches, and scape-goating, then out they go next election.

Our one and only job as westerners is to insist on elections and free speech in the middle east. Things We must be patient as some of the stuff they come up will likely have 'middle ages' written all over it. Don't fret over that stuff. It's the 'elections stupid' that should become our national mantra in the middle east (sorry about the Clinton imagery). And, as long as they have them, progress will be made.

Establish a democracy and the people can organize it anyway they want. But this guy knows that once people taste freedom then are unlikely to vote for religious leaders who will take it from them.

Sounds like the Holy Roman Empire. The European nations nodded respectfully in its direction and fought wars to make sure it didn't have any real power.

We need alternative fuel sources asap. Cold fusion, nuclear power plants? Then the Muslims won't have a market for their oil and we won't be blackmailed into subservience. It's another form of Nazi-ism. It was bad news in the thirties, and worse now. They're furious because their cult religion has mired them in the Dark Ages. It can't be the Koran's fault, and certainly not theirs since they never take responsibility for anything. It's the fault of the evil west. So let's dust off that cold fusion formula hidden away in some govt. attic, fortify the borders and get busy with a missile shield.

"Our one and only job as westerners is to insist on elections and free speech in the middle east."

Speaking of free elections, when was the last time that Bush publicly called for free elections in China. I remember watching Meet the Press and other public affairs shows back in the late 1950's and in the 1960s. Back then national politicians, both Republicans and Democrats, routinely called for free elections in China. You never hear this anymore. I wonder why?
