If Vice President Cheney is indeed a serious darkhorse candidate for president in 2008, as Washington Post reporter Bob Woodward recently suggested, he probably wont want to enlist legendary White House reporter Helen Thomas to help with his press relations, even though she has proposed a campaign strategy he could run on.
Thomas, a syndicated columnist for Hearst Newspapers who has covered the White House since the Kennedy administration, wrote in May that Cheney certainly could campaign on the theme that he has had experience in running the White House.
Thomas made the suggestion in a column she wrote about President Bushs not being notified about a terror scare caused by an off-course Cessna airplane until after it was over, according to Editor & Publisher magazine.
Declaring that the incident again raises the question of whos running the show, Thomas also noted Cheneys central role on Sept. 11 and the widely held view that he is probably the most powerful vice president in recent times, perhaps in U.S. history.
But asked this week if she is promoting a Cheney candidacy, Thomas made it clear she isnt.
The day I say Dick Cheney is going to run for president, Ill kill myself, she told The Hill. All we need is one more liar.
Thomas added, I think hed like to run, but it would be a sad day for the country if he does.

She won't kill herself.
She is lying about that.
Helen do you mean like Baldwin leaving the country the or J. Garofolo crawling over broken glass to apologize?
Gee too bad liberals never mean what they spout
I'll attend her funeral, if lunch is provided.
You got me laughing! Great comment.
She is lying about that
All we need is one more less liar.
Nice to see ya back :>)
Hence Rush SLimbaugh's 'truth of life' about feminism and the truly ugly, in mind and body.
The day I say Dick Cheney is going to run for president, Ill kill myself,
is that a PROMISE ?????????????????
Run, Dick, Run
He's got that deer caught in the headlights look. Have you ever seen any old footage of Ike Eisenhower during press conferences? The press was afraid of him because he chewed 'em out like they were privates in the Army.
I'd be damned if I'd ever sit up there and take the abuse without dishing out a few shots of my own. The members of the press are ranked lower than lawyers (of, which profession I do belong) in public opinion for crying out loud. No one would care if he decides to get a little testy. In fact, the American public would actually like him better for it.
I hear you.
Ari was a MASTER at that job. He had that great quizzical smile, and that fresh wit and quick mind. He never took too much bull either, and the reporters LOVED him!
As threats go, it just seems, well, goofy. If someone supports something you do not like, threatening to do your own interests in won't make any difference.
OTOH...saying you are going to be in their face night and day and make their lives miserable might be more frightening. Of course, they've tried that and it didn't work either.
I'll chalk it up to desperation.
Am I supposed to laugh or run away in terror?
Icing on the cake, baby. Icing on the cake.
Wussy might be an apt description for McClellan.

There, I censored myself.
The day I say Dick Cheney is going to run for president, Ill kill myself, she told The Hill. All we need is one more liar.
More worthless promises from another leftie.
Not that I wish anyone harm, but we still have all those Hollywood libs with us who said they were moving to France if Bush won. So here goes....
Message to Helen...you don't need to kill yourself, I'll be happy if you just promise to go to France if Dick Cheney runs....as long as you really go!
Getting a little desperate for attention, aren't we?
Continue to ignore the flaming woman.
