Does anyone know if there are such things as psychiatrists in the Middle East? Seriously- are there? And if they are, what kinds of behaviors do they treat as 'abnormal', I'd really like to know.
The entire SOCIETY is so psychologically aberrant as a NORM that I wonder if ANYTHING is considered mental illness there!

Interesting point. Like walking into Bizarro World. I guess abnormal behavior would be letting your wife stand on the balcony and look outside to the world.

Found this following from
http://www.reintegration.com/today/index.asp?pid=147
and it relates to what you are saying.

"No one debates the fact that mental illnesses exist everywhere in the world; however, a lesser known fact is that what is considered abnormal behavior in one culture, may be considered perfectly normal and even revered in another. Take Japan for example - a country that did not even have a word for mild depression until five years ago. Why? Because the Japanese culture, with its history of Buddhism and acceptance of sadness and suffering encouraged people to embrace that experience, not seek help for it. "
