GOP offers $10K for Daley conviction (Cook County Republican Party offering 'bounty' on mayor)

The Cook County Republican Party is offering a $10,000 bounty — on the political head of Mayor Richard M. Daley.

Saying the mayor’s credibility has vanished, county GOP Chairman Gary Skoien Tuesday announced that the Republicans will pay a $10,000 reward to anyone who offers information “leading to the indictment and conviction of Mayor Richard M. Daley for violations of the Shakman Decrees or other forms of corruption.”

The Shakman Decree bans the use of political factors in hiring, firing and promotion for most city workers. Mr. Skoien said the bounty is being offered “to assist” U.S. Attorney Patrick Fitzgerald, who has indicted a series of ranking City Hall figures for rigging employment decisions to help political favorites and other alleged misconduct.

“It’s pretty hard to believe the mayor is oblivious to all of this, that he had no knowledge of what’s going on,” Mr. Skoien said, in comments during and after a news conference. “[Daley] makes himself out to be a hands on mayor. It’s hard to believe his denial of any knowledge of what’s going on.”

The announcement — unusual by any political standard — drew quick no comments from Mr. Daley and other Republicans.

“We have no response to something so ridiculous,” said Jacquelyn Heard, Mr. Daley’s press secretary.

“It’s up to them (Cook County Republicans),” said a spokesman for state GOP Chairman Andy McKenna, Jr., “We’re not saying anything.”

Mr. Fitzgerald’s spokesman had no comment on the story.

Mr. Skoien said the decision to offer the bounty was his, but added that he discussed it with some other members of the party’s central committee.

We need to up the ante. $10,000 isn't enough to unseat that doddering knave.

I don't know...

When Daley's gone, who is next?

Jesse Jackson Jr?

Sometimes the cure is worse than the disease...

$10k?

On the one hand, shooting fish in a barrel is really beginning to pay. OTOH, it's hardly sporting.

You're right. Sometimes you're screwing the chicken and sometimes you're just standing there, watching the feathers fly. At least they're Irish.

Cook County Republican leaders are aping the worst of the Democrats. They need to first clean up their house and mention our conservative ideas about government instead of doing stupid stunts typical of people without ideas.

The city is incredibly clean, the garbage gets picked up, the taxes are outrageous, but that's life in the big city. But if Daley goes and Jesse Jr gets in, life will go to hell. The taxes will be unbearable plus we'll have to listen to Jesse Jr. pontificate- at least Daley keeps his mouth shut for the most part, and when he does talk, it's pretty funny. Daley is actually the closest thing to a Republican mayor you could hope for.
