"...commanding a civil affairs unit in Iraq. ...a 43-year-old lawyer..." Those words alone speak volumes. He's a stinkin lieburral lawyer. That's about all you need to know. A "civil affairs unit" commander is a looonnnngg way from a Spec Ops commander.

Civil Affairs, Psyops, Aviation, SF, Ranger, Delta, etc. are all units under the Special Operations command. Go to the following or other USASOC links:

A Civil Affairs unit would have been working directly with the Iraqis working on assistance to the population and on intel. The Units of the Civil Affairs & PsyOps Command are:
