"The first public mention of Wilson's mission to Niger, albeit without identifying him by name, was in the New York Times on May 6, in a column by Nicholas D. Kristof. VIPS sent this memo on May 1, 2003 and Wilson not to be outdone by a more critical stance goes and runs the muck to Kristof and to confirm he, Wilson, is the most critical tells Kristof that all his "finding" could be verified through a "CIA analyst", Valarie Plame soon to be learned, if not already, his wife.
