I don't see what everyone is so upset about. After we nuke Mecca and all of Saudi Arabia back into the stone age, all of the oil underneath is still perfectly usable!

So, can Halliburtion drill though glass? If not they need to get working on that.

The areas of vitrification would not be the oilfields. There would be little point to wasting a nuke explosive device on an oilfield, although a retreating enemy might torch their own oilfield to deny its use. It would take a year or two to bring the oilfield back to production.
