Actually I think he crossed the line just a bit too far simply because such a statement could come back to haunt him in a debate.

Haunted by whom?

The political "in" crowd? The politically correct crowd? The business as usual at any cost crowd?

I don't think it's being PC to be against nuking Mecca because of Bin Laden or Al Qaeda. It would be stupid. It would not be helpful to our objective in Iraq as the entire population would turn on us. We'd lose critical arab nation allies in the fight against terror and the Pakistani government would probably crumble and their nukes smuggled in or somehow used against us.
We have a gay bishop here in Maine. I don't agree with it, but I'm not going to condem the Vatican for this bishop's going a stray
