DENVER (AP) - Some military veterans and law enforcement officials are angry about a Web site promoting Owen Wilson and Vince Vaughn's comedy "Wedding Crashers."
To win the affections of attractive bridesmaids in the movie, two fun-loving partiers pretend to be Purple Heart recipients.
New Line Cinema's movie Web site includes a fake, paper Purple Heart to cut out, with the spoof: "Carrying a Purple Heart in your jacket guarantees you attention, admiration and plenty of free booze."
"I challenge the producer of that movie to go to Walter Reed Hospital and walk through the ward and see if he still wants to print out a fake Purple Heart," said Thomas Cottone, Jr., a special agent with the FBI who enforces a federal law that prohibits wearing, manufacturing, buying, selling or trading a Medal of Honor.
"Talk to some of these people who don't have legs anymore and see how funny they think that movie is."
New Line Cinema, which produced the movie, did not return a phone message.
A bill introduced in the U.S. House of Representatives Friday would expand federal law to allow prosecution of anyone who falsely claims to have earned a military medal or a Purple Heart.
"Here's an example of Hollywood imitating life. Hopefully it brings to the American conscience that this is what is happening," said Doug Sterner, a Vietnam veteran who runs a Web site dedicated to Medal of Honor recipients.
Dude, I almost nun-chucked you, you have no idea.
Another embarrassement for McCain being in that flick.
I apologize for the bad spelling, I was trying to post this as quick as possible so that it wouldn't be a dupe.
Jean-Francois Kerry must be nervous about this.
There is nothing so precious to lose as one's sense of humor.
". . . .portray the two as scumags."
Context is everything, isn't it?
The movie is very funny, and not nearly as raunchy as portrayed.
In fact, it has some pretty conservative themes: (1) one of the great running themes in the movie is the hypocrisy of the fake limosine liberals (the fiance is an "environmentalist) and (2) the second is that empty sex is just that --- empty --- and there is, indeed, something special and sactified about marriage.
Lol. More of the same from Sleazywood. No surprises.
That was a series spelling error. It was hugh. <;)
This movie is just going to make weddings more security concious. Not for any other reason than the price.
An open bar costs money.
Each seat costs money.
Every father of the bride will now ask the wedding planer or hotel event coordinator what he is going to do to prevent crashers.
I also wondered if it was a dig at Kerry, since the movie also portrays the environmentalist, socially-conscious boyfriend as a complete and utter fake and scumbag.
I'm probably reading too much into it.
You forgot the wise all relationship knowing homosexual male who helps the girl see the light about her stupid straight male object of affection.
Hell, art imitates life. Look at John Kerry.
sory i suk
The scene does not mock the military.
It mocks the two liars and "poseurs."
If anything, it affirms that military honors are just that --- honorable and desireable.
"I'm probably reading too much into it."
I don't think you are.
The whole movie was a complete slam against limo libs.
I think the funeral crashing scene was a dig at the Wellstone disaster.
Yeah, he only tried to pick up a whole country with that line.....
A TRIED and TRUE method to denigrade a group of people is to make others laugh and them. Portraying them as scumbags is one thing, but that the movie is very funny shows their intent.
They might have made the men pretend to be politicians, sleazy actors, directors, producers, etc. But, they chose to make them false Purple Heart winners.
"we lost a lot of men"
hey guys, its a movie, a very UN PC movie.
Lighten up.
Actually, in this movie, the only homosexual character is portrayed as a scary anti-social loner with severe emotional problems.
