wear a wife beaterMy original comments had been an attempt at humour (I know, I know, a risky business at here at FR). I have no intention of prowling Ebay's auctions for bullet proof vests but I am intrigued by this wife beater thing. Could you enlighten me as to what that might be?

Humor, especially sarcasm, requires tone of voice and inflection, in order for the listener to understand it as sarcasm. Since the written word doesn't allow inflection, the "/<sarcasm" tag is the accepted way of announcing your intentions as humorous. Otherwise people will just think you a fool. There are plenty about.
A "wife beater" is a sleeveless undergarment that is the favored attire of drunken wife beaters everywhere.;o)
