CHICAGO -- A northwest Indiana family is mourning their new puppy after it was killed in a botched kidnap-for-ransom plot.
The cocker spaniel puppy, named Lucky, was in a relative's back yard when he suddenly disappeared.
A few days later, the dognapper left a message demanding $10,000, or he would feed the small dog to his pit bulls.
By the time the family arrived at the dognapping suspect's house, it was too late. The puppy was already battered and beaten, and later died.
Police arrested 40-year-old Marc Czernik and are holding him in jail.
Feed the dognapper to the pit bulls, then kill the pit bulls (humanely, of course).
I hope the perp spends a decade or so in prison.
"Feed the dognapper to the pit bulls"
You beat me to it...My exact words.
That's almost too kind.
"...named Lucky"
Hmmmmmm. Woof.
Did the perp know the family? Sounds like it, since they knew where his house was. Why did he think he wouldn't be prosecuted, if they knew who he was?
Might be some sort of long-standing feud involved here.
That said, these slimeballs who abuse dogs (and I'll bet he fights his dogs - dog fighters often use family pets as bait for their animals) should be prosecuted to the nth degree.
1. They say they didn't know the guy. He must be a complete loon. Or else he knows them even if they don't know him (disgruntled employee, crazy neighbor).
2. NO PIT BULLS! Isn't it odd how the media pushes every mean dog as a "pit bull"? The guy said he'd feed the pup to his Chessie. Now, Chessies are hard headed dogs and I've known a couple that are dog aggressive, but they're retrievers, not pits. I wouldn't have a pit, but it seems to me they're being demonized by the media (like guns, or conservatives.)
****..."Caller ID led the family to a home in rural Peotone."...***
howl!
What a moron.
Perhaps he was working on a neon sign to post over his home that says "Hey guys! I'm over here!"
That'll change one day, when children become people.

Here's from another article: The 15-pound puppy was lying on the back deck as Czernik's 40-pound pit bull and 70-pound Chesapeake Bay retriever/St. Bernard mix stood over Lucky. The puppy was bloody and dirty.
It seems like every so often, a different breed of dog will get tagged as "bad." When I was very young, it was German "Policedogs," as they were called then and we were told to stay away from them. Later, Dalmatians, Dobermans, and Rottweilers all got to be the bad guys. And now it's Pit Bulls (although they probably should change the name - American Staffordshire is just too long.)
And fed daily to big Bad Bubba.
All I know about Pit Bulls comes from when two came out of their garage, into the street and attacked my dog who was on a leash running between my wife and me. There was absolutely NO provocation from my dog!!
I want someone to tell me what wonderful dogs there are ...
We were lucky that we were able to pull them off before they killed my dog. Even the owners seemed afraid of their dogs and didn't want to come near them when the attack was occuring.
There's your key. It's the $)(^%)(^$@#)(& owners. Prosecute those low-lifes within an inch of their lives.
Unfortunately, if legislators ever figure out (1) what IS a "pit bull" or "pit bull type" and (2) manage to exterminate them all (whatever they are), the bad actors will simply find another breed of dog to make mean. As another poster noted, Rotties, Dobes, and GSDs have all been the "mean dog of choice" in the past.
