KHAMENEI MUST STEP DOWN, SAYS IRANIAN DISSIDENT AKBAR GANI
Iran Press Service ^ | Sunday, July 24, 2005

“Ayatollah Ali Khamenei is no more the leader, having overstepped his legitimacy by not responding to his Islamic duties. He must step down”, says Iran’s most prominent political dissident Akbar Ganji.

In a pathetic letter to the nation’s most senior dissident cleric, Grand Ayatollah Hoseynali Montazeri, Mr. Ganji cites a statement by the fonder of the Islamic Republic Grand Ayatollah Rouhollah Khomeini saying “every member of the population has the right to impeach publicly the ruling officials and if the impeached one has no satisfactory answer, otherwise and if having acted against his Islamic obligations, he must step down and if not, he is considered as removed from his position”.

“In the past years, Mr. Khameneh’i has been impeached by this nation but not only he has never dared to answer questions, he has sent to prison the questioners. Based on Mr. Khomeini’s thoughts and directives, Mr. Khamenei is no more the leader of the Islamic Republic and is removed from this position”, Mr. Ganji observed.

The case of Mr. Ganji, an investigative journalist and political writer and polemist has developed in the most dramatic challenge to both the theocratic system of Iran and the very person of Mr. Khameneh’i, whom Mr. Ganji refers to as a “Sultan”.

Yielding to mounting internal and international pressures, the authorities transported Mr. Ganji to a hospital for medical treatment and alleging that he has ended his hunger strike.

But his wife, Mrs. Shafi’i told media on Saturday that her husband is still continuing his action and the reason that the Judiciary, controlled directly by Mr. Khameneh’i has transported him to hospital is because he had become unconscious.

Mrs. Shirin Ebadi, Iran's Nobel Prize winner on Sunday warned the international human rights organisations and media about the "failing" health of Mr. Ganji.

No i think the problem is Khamenei has responded to his Islamic duties and therefore should step down.

People of Iran do not want an Islamic dictatorship - they want a secular democratic regime.

says Iran’s most prominent political dissident Akbar Ganji

Will some one explain to me why the ranting of a powerless dissident constitutes an "Important Story"?

Jane Fonda is an important dissident in some peoples eyes. Nobody pays attention to her either.

For the FReedom loving peoples of Iran, anything Ganji says is an "important story"; these days, and I agree with them. If you go back and read previous posts here at FR with quotes from Ganji you'll see why. Not only is the man brilliant, but he has a true poet's heart. An Amazing guy! No wonder the average FReedom seeker in Iran loves him.

I think it is beyond your understanding why he is important to many of us here and there!

How dare you compare an idiot like Hanoi Jane with Akbar Ganji?

Jane fonda was a commie, fighting those who were fighting for freedom but this Akbar Ganji is a freedom fighter.

You also sounded like Hanoi Jane in your post!

I wonder if you ever read news!

Unfortunately, it seems that the bulk of
the Iranian people, are too afraid, and too
cowed to throw off the boots of those that
hold them as slaves. Khamenei, the SAVAK &
the torturers of the secret police, and the
Basiji thugs of Shaitan.

Many Iranians have accepted slavery, over the
honor of fighting and dying for their freedom.

You are absolutely wrong!

It is your Media which have turned blind eye on our campaign against the regime.

And moreover, every regime change should not necessarily be done through violent campaign, however we have been fighting the mullahs since they came to power.

But it doesn't mean that we can not win or we are cowards.

No, I disagree!

Many Iranians have accepted slavery, over the honor of fighting and dying for their freedom.

If that is true, then why the Mullahs' prisons are full of dissidents and freedom fighters?

You might need to pay attention carefully to what is going on in Iran

There are thousands of guards willing to kill milions to save their nasty revolution

2nd, there is a huge support from EU for the Mullahs in terms of Economy, Military and Moral.

We have no body in our team and we are alone fighting the Mullahs!

Have you heard of Civil Disobedience?
