There are several reasons that these attacks are taking place.
1.) Islamic terrorists are virulently anti-semetic. They hate us because of our support of Israel.

2.) They hate individual liberty. Historically, Islamic society is based entirely on coercion. Individuals, families, clans, and communities are based on peoples' lives being pawns in the hands of a few cruel, arrogant people on pedestals. Exposure to our ideas threatens the power bases of these chieftans.

3.) Islamic culture is essentially nihilistic in nature. They kill and destroy at the drop of a hat. But, other than their architecture, they have very little technical or artistic achievement to show for their lives.

4.) Widespread lack of basic education. In many cases, the only schools available to children are run by terrorists and their supporters, who use this to poison their students minds with propoganda.

5.) Corruption and exploitation of the powerless, which is related to the previous two reasons, is a regular part of their culture. Too many people are powerless to better their livelihoods without facing violence. They become embittered, frustrated, and angry, and suceptible to the propaganda by those who benefit the most from keeping them powerless.

Now, how to end this 1,400 history of appalling human subjugation for the benefit of a few potentates? How do we "demand" that they end their "educational system" (grooming children to become homicidal killers)?

Personally, I agree with Ali Sina [http://www.faithfreedom.org] who says that Islam in its entirety must be eradicated from the face of the earth.

That's the solution. I don't quite see the process, however, although President Bush's idea of leading these antiquated, corrupt dictatorial systems to democracy is one way of eradicating Islam. I'm rather impatient, though, with the "go slow" policy which could take tens of thousands more innocent lives over 2 generations.

A few doses of "shock and awe" in the right islamic hotbed locations could speed the process along and finally end what has been a scourge to humanity for 1,400 years.
