Yeah, and didn't this Brazilian idiot also jump a turnstile in addition to running and ignoring police demands one day after the attempted bombings? The family doth protest too much. You are right about the NYPD...Amadou Diallo found that out the hard way. His family also protested too much...what was he doing reaching for his wallet--or anything else for that matter--instead of getting his Guinean ass on the ground when 4 cops were screaming at him to do so?

The odd thing is, this guy looks a little like yours truly.
That's a very obvious question to ask.
And yet the media has not asked that question.
It cannot be the question never occurred to the media; it's too obvious a question not to think of asking.
So what is the media up to?
Dead right: plain, old-fashioned panic. Amazes me how few people posting to all the threads about this are considering the possibility of panic, or understand how the panic reaction works. Once the flight reaction takes over, you do not act rationally. The poor guy needs to be neither guilty nor 'stupid'. I fear that many of the Freepers pontificating about this, myself included, might react the same way in the circumstances, despite what our rational minds might be telling us.
This is one of those occasions where nobody involved is to 'blame'. The police doubtless acted precisely according to their training and procedures. Something happened in the sequence of events not foreseen in the training. The training will doubtless be tweaked accordingly - but the poor guy who pulled the trigger will have to live with this and may never be the same again.
