Would anybody miss the Muslims? If some magical disease that only killed followers of Islam manifested itself and wiped every last one of them out would it really be a great loss to humanity?

Islam is unique among civilizations in the fact that it has actually devolved over time. It was more civilized and prosperous 1000 years ago! While at one time Islam was an intellectual and scientific culture, in modern times it lists only the suicide belt and world-wide poverty as its most far-reaching contributions to humanity. Go Islam!

I don't know if it's unique in that -- look at Rome from the time of Jesus to around 500 -- but it has devolved. When Ferdinand and Isabella kicked the Jews out of Spain in 1492, it was the Ottoman Empire that welcomed them (including at least one of my ancestors) with open arms. ones.

And maybe that's why Turkey continues to be a reasonably free nation, when so much of the rest of the Muslim world is not.

In any case, it's only in the last couple of hundred years that Christian nations have generally been friendlier to Jews than Muslim.
