9mm is perfectly adaquate. Depends on the round used. If these had been Noseler XTP hollowpoints, the perp would be dead. As it is, it was probably standard 115gr FMJ. Good for poking small holes in paper, useless for almost anything else.

Fine.

The nice thing about a .45 is that you don't need expansion. It is already big enough.

We can debate that. A round passing through a body won't transfer nearly as much energy as a round expanding into said target. Even a .500 S&W will just poke a slightly bigger hole unless you can get more energy transfer from the kinetics of the bullet to the target.

My carry pistol is a Witness 10mm. First 5 rounds are 135gr XTP loaded at 6grs of W-231. Yeilds around 1720 FPS on the chrono. Follow that with 5 180gr FMJ loaded at 5.7 and another 5 200gr SP loaded at 5.9.

I still use hollow point .45's. There's less of a risk of pass-through and hitting something or someone behind the target.
