Former U.S. intelligence officers criticized President Bush on Friday for not disciplining Karl Rove in connection with the leak of the name of a CIA officer, saying Bush's lack of action has jeopardized national security.

Yeeesh ... Amy just let out the CIA-Campbell Soup connection. That was extra super-souper top secret.
Yeah, and remember how responsible the embeds were? And how it drove the rest of the MSM up the wall?

Imagine if World War II were covered live. Would now-historic battles -- and early American and British setbacks -- have changed the course of the war? Would instantly-parsed observations of morale bolster the enemy? What about Vietnam and its duration? Those in the media and those who think about the future of media and technology have begun to fathom this change.
Deep Miller
Did the New York Times just change the rules of journalism?

Judith Miller scores a sizzling scoop on Page One of today's New York Times. Her story, "Illicit Arms Kept Till Eve of War, an Iraqi Scientist Is Said To Assert," asserts that an Iraqi scientist who claims he worked on Saddam's chemical warfare program for a decade has led U.S. military investigators to a "supply of material that proved to be the building blocks of illegal weapons" that he buried as proof of the weapons program.

The Source of the Trouble"
Where Miller exhibited so much hostility to other reporters, she would be fawning and generous to her sources. Judy treats her sources well, with a sense of loyalty. Shes an attentive and courteous person to them, one Times reporter says. Her strength was that she viewed the relationships as more than transactional. Her sources were her friends.
According to some of her critics, they have occasionally been more than friends. In the early eighties, she shared a Georgetown house with her boyfriend, Wisconsin congressman Les Aspina rising star in the Democratic Party, who went on to become Bill Clintons first secretary of Defense. Aspin, many noted, had appeared a dozen times in Millers pieces, offering sage words about national security. Certain catty colleagues liked to read these stories aloud. Each time the phrase Aspin said appeared, a reporter would add, rolling over in bed. When Reagan nominated Richard Burt to be assistant secretary of State for European affairs, Jesse Helms and other right-wingers bludgeoned him for their relationship. It would help [your chances for confirmation], Orrin Hatch delicately wrote to Burt, if you could lay to rest the rumors about Judith Millers articles on arms control appearing so soon after your own meetings with her. . .
Aha! This explains the elderly husband who doesn't seem to be too upset that she is in jail.
Very interesting reading!
I maintain that her cover was made up (homemade) even though her former supervisor vouches for it. I would also note that an alternative explanation is that the CIA did a good job burying it once they were finished with it. That's lugsoul's opinion although I am skeptical of that idea. My argument with lugsoul starts around post 81 in this thread: http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/1443603/posts
And when their conspiracy failed to defeat Bush at the polls last November, they became even more livid. And now they're trying to jin up a case for impeachment. This stinks to high heaven.
Outstanding review. You've clearly been following this for some time
By what authority do the Democrats hold their own rump hearings? They act like a government in exile. Was this held at the Capitol? It better not have been.
Don't forget the Torch.
Right, the Torrecelli Amendment. Which almost single-handedly destroyed all the US HUMINT capabilities.
"It was a publicity stunt from the get-go"
I think it was much more than a publicity stunt. I believe it was a plan hatched between Hillary Clinton and Valerie Pflame. The Wilsons have been close friends and fund raisers for the Clintons for years.
I believe Valerie was the "leaker" of all the bad CIA stuff which Hillary used - and which the democrat members of the Select Committee on Intel took advantage of - by saying in their "Memogate" memos that they were going to use the intel information they were privy to as senators to damage Bush. None of those democrat senators should be on that committee .. and maybe none of those democrat senators should even be senators. Surely these actions are a betrayal of their oath.
The Hillary/Valerie link is very important. Just who really suggested that Wilson be sent to Niger. Did Valerie think of it herself .. or did the suggestion come from Hillary .. and was it part of a plan to damage Bush and Blair ..?? and .. STOP THE INVASION OF IRAQ.
Remember, Bill Clinton told Blair that if he didn't stop supporting Bush - Blair was going to lose his election. Shortly after that declaration by Clinton to Blair - the Wilson story became headlines. Did Bill and Hillary have advance notice of this event .. or were they involved in the planning of the event ..??
What's also curious is that when Wilson first returned from Niger - he didn't mention anything about the Niger story of the sale of yellowcake being wrong.. and his excuse for distancing himself from Bush was also different. It seems Wilson's story only changed and became hardline against Bush was AFTER WILSON JOINED THE CAMPAIGN OF JOHN KERRY. Hmmmm?? I wonder who in the Kerry campaign was enlisted by Hillary/Valerie to put out the false story that there was NO SALE OF YELLOWCAKE by Niger to Iraq ..??
Remember one really important thing. Hillary has been waiting for the opportunity to get back at the repubs for impeaching her scum of a husband. Her involvement in this Wilson affair is a given - as far as I'm concerned. Only Hillary and Bill would have the influence to pull off such a scheme.
Well, it is a good way to get their talking points .. they have to do so many interviews to keep the anti-Bush/Rove story alive. /sarcasm
Reading more about Miller, I'm wondering if she's a CIA operative .....
It's now obvious that Fitzgerald's investigation deals with the tip of a very sinister iceberg... and I pray he knows it, and has begun piercing some of the tentacles of this multi-headed monster... it is truly mind boggling and frightening. After reading so much about him, if anyone can handle this, he's it. He has a squeaky clean reputation, and he's patient and relentless.
I remember the movie Star Chamber from '83 .. this is it, magnified exponentially .. a shadow government, dark forces aligned from within to determine outcomes .. an evil machine.
All my prayers for W have been for wisdom and courage and protection from the wackos and savage terrorists who want his head ... I had NO idea that there was such a minefield so close to him and a cabal of US govt. employees he had to monitor and from whom he needed protection. And you know he knows .. and has to bear it every day. Where's Woodward now??
Gotta love and also pray for Porter Goss and Condi .. they have herculean fumigation tasks on their plate.
Exactly what I'd like to know.
I was watching Fox this afternoon and they had on Rich Galen and Bob Beckel to talk about the CIA leak investigation.
Catherine Herridge was interviewing, and she said the fact that Miller is in jail and Cooper almost went to jail, is proof to her that the Prosecutor is going for an indictment. Maybe or maybe not on the leak, but on perjury or obstruction charges. Beckel was all over it, of course, and Galen seemed a bit reserved or quiet for my taste...almost like he was lying low not knowing where this is headed.
The whole point they discussed was their presumption that Rove and Scooter Libby are being investigated for possibly misleading investigators about.....something. Who knows what? Even on Fox, right along with the MSM, their template is that this begins and ends with Rove, and perhaps Libby. It's only of question of when, not if, and a question of exactly what they'll be indicted for.
I'm not agreeing with that AT ALL, understand, just reporting that not a single hint is out there of what we are talking about here.
Yeah, I saw a comment about Rich. Don't let Rich's quietness fool you. He just doesn't try to outshout Beckel - but he's 10 times sharper than Beckel.
What I don't understand is that the prosecutor has TOLD THE MEDIA - ROVE IS NOT THE SUBJECT OF MY INVESTIGATION.
But .. since that statement doesn't fit the the left's agenda, they act like they never heard anything. I'm just sick of the whole mess, and I hope FOX was right yesterday when they said the investigation would be over in 3 months.
Thanks for your reply.
I don't assume WHY Galen came across that way, just that he did, and it could be interpreted as standing somewhat neutral because he is privately concerned that Rove/Libby might be in trouble.
Yes, Rove's attorney has said the Prosecutor has said he is not a subject of the investigation. But the media is running wild with a "new" story that the investigation has taken a "new turn" and is looking at Rove/Libby statements to see if there is perjury or obstruction there.
Who knows what the truth is? I am just saying, the media, including Fox, never breathe a word that Fitzgerald could be looking at anybody else other than Rove/Libby, whereas here we talk about that all day long.
Did you see where that CIA political hack actually gave the Democrat's response to President Bush's radio address today? Larry somebody? I read a few words of it and thought I would throw up. The shock of it all, that the Dems would put this anti-Bush loon from the bowels of the CIA up there as the Dem Party's representative. It takes my breath away.
A coup is what they seem to be going for, and they will try to use anyone or anything. The CIA ex's in this plot are totally out of control. They are a potential threat to the security of this nation.
Holy Cow is right...thanks for the ping to this thread full of tons of info....some of it a little scary and I hope the SP or someone on his staff reads FR..
