These guys have been around long enough to know that no matter what they do, this is going to smack them back hard.
NYC wants it cops to be the ultimate PC guys, and take all the blame for everything, and alot of those folks that "report" suspicious people, are usually BS reports that they basically toss out anyway even if it should be credible.
$16.99 for a t-shirt???? You can be original and accomplish the same thing 3 times over by buying a pack of 3 and some iron-on letters. The hippies of the 70's were at least thrifty. As the saying goes "A fool and his money...."
they won't "get in trouble" for stopping some muslim men and searching them. as police officers, they are totally indemnified against civil actions.

UN diplomats openly disrespect NYC cops, and are not above spitting at them.
The NYC cops hate and loathe the UN guys and the department almost always goes against its rank and file.
That said, realize this is the same city that will fine you for sitting on a milk crate (not joking, its happened this year).

with that logic, we might as well do away with airport screening to. consider that you only need a handful of terrorists boarding planes, in relation to the total number of people who fly every day - so why bother screening at all. why bother checking passports then, or visas. the "odds" of finding someone is so low.

On what is supposed to be a Conservative Constitutional website, the denizens are laughing at the assertion of the most basic of Constitutional rights.
They need Probable Cause to stop and search and the unPC truth is that unless the target gives probable cause that at least he/she fits a PROFILE - you know what I mean- then this random searching is a ticket to a place we shouldn't want to go.
Be afraid...of more then bombs.

2) Search all those who fit the profile or the description (depending on whether LE is trying to catch all the bombers they can find or just a particular bomber.)
True enough. Cost for a trained dog starts at about $20k. And they have to be trained just about every day by an expert handler for at least an hour or they revert to a very expensive pet.
That's funny. But think about it... Searching people on the street. The airport searches have gotten more and more intrusive. Everyone has to take their shoes off now, and take the laptop out of the case. You can't have a nail file or a cigarette lighter. You know, all the CRAP. If they pull off these street searches they will escalate, comrade. It could get very, very bad. And you know they will search the ones least likely to complain, and also they pretty girls they want to feel up, and let the obvious suspects go right on by. It's what they always do. This is not a good tactic. It's poorly thought out, it will be poorly executed. You watch.
Now where have I seen this before, ah yes, Moscow.
Of course, taxes are far, far lower in Moscow than NYC.
Uh, just take a second to think. It's not about the actual search. It's about the potential for a search that might discourage the the bad guys. Get it?

One of my close friends almost lost his badge and had a complaint lodged against him (which required a hearing) because he stopped and questioned someone who looked like a wanted rapist and wore the exact same clothes as the suspect they were looking for.
NYC will protect you from civil suits, then penalize you on there own. It could something like being reassigned to a crappy area or being put on traffic duty.
They have the "Dumb and Dumber" t-shirts also. President Bush and his Father. Liberal NY, full of transients and dopey tourists.

They might want to protect and serve, they don't like having one arm tied behind their backs and that is whats going to happen, they know it, everyone knows it, and only a fool wouldn't realize it.

Yeah quit being PC and search the rag heads only. My wife and I came back from a cruise several years back and I saw a 75 year oild women being searched athte airport. What a fricken joke!!!
They like being cops and doing the right thing, but they do have the brains to realize this is going to be a cluster*&ck and a half, if they stop arabs or muslims, or anyone not white, they'll get in trouble and if they stop white folks and that person files a complain, they'll still get in trouble.
Its asking someone to do the job with one hand behind your back, they already know how this turns out, and they also know how confrontational folks are over the dumbest things.
NYC is lucky no one becomes a cop for the money, you actually have got to want to do this, no one, ever becomes a cop in this city because of the pay or benefits.
If they were true patriots and really did their job in the best interests of the public, they and their unions would protest vehemently against such orders. But they "just follow" them no matter how draconian the orders are. They'll probably do the same when ordered to do a little ethnic cleansing, I'm sure.
