German settlers began arriving in the 1600s. Someone who is only 3rd generation

Well, I'm speaking of Germans in Texas, strictly. There was a HUGE influx to Texas through Galveston and New Orleans in the early 1800s, after the Prince of Solms was sent to establish a settlement. You might say Texas was the German's destination of last resort, LOL.

Most of the refugees from the failed Revolution of 1844 fled to the Midwest and settled in Ohio, Indiana, Illinois, Wisconsin and Minnesota.

They got there just in time to beef up Union battalions in the Civil War ~ got 'mercanized real darned quick too!
