Politicians are always interested in what a majority of voters want.

I could not disagree more.

In order to get elected a politician must get the votes of a majority. Any politician who fails to get that vote becomes a non politician. You can play on the margins...perhaps only 40% support a candidates position on issue A, but 60% support his position on issue B so it equals out, but the people don't elect politicians who promise to do what the people don't want done.

I think either the people really don't care about immigration as an issue, or other pressing issues like taxes, terrorism, and abortion supersede illegal immigration as an issue.

I know you disagree. Would you care to elaborate your statement?

I would be very interested to know what you consider your 5 top issues are? Mine are:
1 Life
2 Defense
3 Taxes
4 Guns
5 Trade

To be perfectly honest I could vote for a gun grabber or trade isolationist if they were strong on abortion, defense, and taxes and the rat was deficient in all categories as usual.
