Heed Osama's specific goals
Boston Globe ^ | July 21, 2005 | ALLAN MORGAN

Posted on 07/21/2005 3:10:50 PM PDT by Lonesome in Massachussets

IN RESPONSE to Cathy Young's column ''A moral muddle on the left" (op ed, July 18), I think she should note that although Osama bin Laden is undoubtedly offended by the gross materialism and decadence of Western secular capitalism, and although he skillfully uses the moral zealotry of Islam to forward his agenda, his agenda is quite straightforward and is not based on some categorical imperative to stamp out Western civilization and its freedoms.

Rather one has only to read his own words during the past decade to realize that what drives his actions is a rather well articulated agenda: to banish US military forces from the holy land of the Arabian Peninsula, to get rid of US and other Western military forces from other Arab lands, including Afghanistan and Iraq, to bring an end to those corrupt Arab regimes that have been tolerated if not propped up by the United States and that have made a mockery of traditional Islam, to destroy Israel and restore a homeland for the Palestinians, to conserve the Arab world's chief resource and stop the flow of cheap oil to the West.

These are the specific goals of his agenda; you might call it his foreign policy. All are specific and focus on defending Islamic lands, people, and beliefs against what he believes is Western aggression.

The United States may not like his agenda, but if we are to deal successfully with bin Laden's aggression, we would do well to understand his agenda rather than, in our own self-righteousness, simply brand him as a terrorist wishing to do us all in.

OK, what the Hell is some Dweeb from Tennesse doing posting in Boston Globe? Don't they have any rags in Knoxville? I like to remind myself why I cancelled my Globe subscription.

Just how easy is it to parody this? With apologies to Godwin

IN RESPONSE to Dorthy Thompson's column "I saw Hitler" (op ed, December 6, 1941 ), I think she should note that although Adolph Hitler is undoubtedly offended by the gross materialism and decadence of Western secular capitalism, and although he skillfully uses the moral zealotry of Nazism to forward his agenda, his agenda is quite straightforward and is not based on some categorical imperative to stamp out Western civilization and its freedoms.

Rather one has only to read his own words during the past decade to realize that what drives his actions is a rather well articulated agenda: to banish Allied military forces from the Germanic land of the Sudetenland, to get rid of US and other Allied military forces from the Rhineland, including Alsace and Lorraine and Luxembourg, to bring an end to those corrupt Aryan regimes that have been tolerated if not propped up by the United States and that have made a mockery of traditional Nazism, to destroy Poland and restore a homeland for the Sudeten Germans, to conserve the Aryan world's chief resource and stop the flow of cheap beer to the West.

These are the specific goals of his agenda; you might call it his foreign policy. All are specific and focus on defending Nazi lands, people, and beliefs against what he believes is Western aggression.

The United States may not like his agenda, but if we are to deal successfully with Herr Hitler’s aggression, we would do well to understand his agenda rather than, in our own self-righteousness, simply brand him as an Aggressor wishing to do us all in.

Your kidding me. Right?
If this clown actually believes this garbage, we should send him to Pakistan as our "Special Envoy". He can wax poetic about Bin Laden's policy positions!! But let him know he must "keep his head" while negotiating.

Not to speak of all those schools and daycare centers that bin Ladin built in Afghanistan.

This is what happens when you allow cousins to marry. Saddam married his cousin and we saw what an upstanding young man (Qusay) turned out to be. Uday is not Saddam's biological son (his wife got pregnant by another man) so you cannot comment on that madman.

It's interesting how he kind of skips right over the "destroy Israel" bit, isn't it? Oh, well, just a bunch of Jews, nobody important.

KEIN BLUT FUR BIER!

The hell you say!!! You have no idea what I'd do to obtain a nice, cold, Konigsbacher Pils right now.

Among my fondest memories of my tour in Germany were occasional Sunday afternoons at the brauerei bierstube in Koblenz, eating a fine jagerschnitzel mit pommes frites while imbibing several litres of boch bier.

Heck yes, I'd give up a little blood for that!

Prosit!

Oh, I don't know. Unless we are intending to give Bin Laden what he wants, his agenda really does not matter much. On the other hand, branding him as a terrorist makes sense, because that is precisely what he is.
