The last Comanche Code-Talker, Charles Chibitty has passed away. He died at around 4 p.m. today in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
He was 83 years of age, just shy of 84. Charlie had been ill and in the hospital for several months.
He was a friend to many of us and a good father, husband and soldier.

I wonder how many of the Indian languages are left today that are recorded on audio and put to paper also.
There was a clip earlier on TV that played audio of Chibitty speaking in Comanche. Great stuff.

Great pictures.
These guys came in on D-Day and some other super tough battles. Their skill was vital. When those German 88s and Panzers pounded you with a blitz, you had to be brave and keep your head. I have heard stories of how vicious the pounding could be for weeks on end.
More pics would be great.

I bet those days under German attack were some hard days. These were some real good men who served their country valiantly. Warriors for the cause.
Just after Dad past away in 1999, The book, "Rock of Anzio, the history of the 45th Division" came out and you are absolutly right, especially Anzio, it was unbelievable. The pounding they took.
We tried to get him to go to a reunion in New York for the 45th some years ago. He said he didn't want to go because he wouldn't know anyone there. If you read the book, you will know what he meant.

Arthur L. Money presents Charles Chibitty with a cased American flag that was flown over the capitol during ceremonies in the Pentagon's Hall of Heroes. The 78- year-old Chibitty is the last surviving World War II Army Comanche "code talker."

Amen! This had to be one of the most important and potentially dangerous jobs of WWII.

The Navajo were primarily with the Marines in the Pacific, the Comanche with the Army in Europe. I believe...

Few people know the story of the Comanche code

Thank you for your protection, ole friend.
I know your family will miss you.

Yes, you are right. I did not know the facts until this week. What a great story of service and honor to pass to the children.

Lived, did their sacrifice, their work, lived out their lives, didn't whine and snivel, didn't bray like a hollywood jackass.
Just lived like men of honor and died like men of honor.
