The last Comanche Code-Talker, Charles Chibitty has passed away. He died at around 4 p.m. today in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
He was 83 years of age, just shy of 84. Charlie had been ill and in the hospital for several months.
He was a friend to many of us and a good father, husband and soldier.

I wish they would make more films on WW II. That was the last great war, where the entire country pulled together. That was my Daddy's war, and I remember watching the TV show "Combat" with him in the 60's, and Dad would talk about WW II events. So my interest in that era comes from strong memories I picked up in childhood.

I heard the train in the Tulsa night,
Calling out my name, looking for a fight
Don't care where she goes,
Don't know where she's been,
But the Tulsa Queen is crying
'Cause we won't see you again.
Farewell, true American, Charles Chibitty...

Ciexyz, My Dad was also in WWII. He was in the 101st at Bastone. Dad would never talk about the war except to remember how bitter cold it was in the fox-holes on the outskirts of Bastone. After the breakout, he was shot by a sniper and spent the next 13 months in hospitals in France, England, the the US.
Sadly we are losing 1,000 WWII veterans per day.

My Dad was a Radioman (scout) 180th reg. 45th Division. He made it to outside Rome before he was hit. The 45th had a built-in quantity of "code talkers" as it was a southwest reserve division. Same as others he kept most of it to himself except he told me in my younger days how he always had to have an Indian (PC wasn't invented yet) at his side at all times for communications.

Thanks for letting us know.
Thank you, Mr. Chibitty for everything you have done for us. Rest in peace, friend.

I had the honor to meet Mr. Chibitty at a talk he gave about codetalkers in the mid-90s. True American legend. Growing up in Oklahoma my heros have always been Indians and Cowboys... people like Mr. Chibitty are why. What a hero.

I read somewhere recently, there's at least one Navaho code talker still alive. I don't know about the several tribes who served in the European theatre.

Thank you for honoring Mr. Chibitty. I saw this on a news clip while ago and knew someone on FR would have already posted it.
This entire story of the code-talkers is great and so were the men. Thanks to them all for their service in our nation's time of need.
I wish the immigrants who want to divide us would be as devoted to our country and to our way of life.
Rest in peace Charles Chibitty

I bet those days under German attack were some hard days. These were some real good men who served their country valiantly. Warriors for the cause.

Thank you Mr. Chibitty.
You are a rare breed.
Rest well.

His spirit is now as his words were once...part of the wind, part of the sky, without substance, yet powerful enough to defeat an imperial army. Beautiful words....
My head bows in his honor.
