I am sure that we would all prefer that the irresponsible owers be tied up and not be allowed to run lose ;-)
Do the mixes have the same temperament?
I would, too.
They might. They pick up some traits from each parent.
Actually many more people are killed and injured riding and working horses. Should we ban horses now?
Then I made the right choice in keeping my kid away from a cousin's mix breed. Unfortunately the cousin now has two baby girls. Just hope nothing happens there.
Reread my comment. I didn't call you names. I just pointed out the profound stupidity of your statement. Apparently your jerking knee causes your keyboard to type all by itself. (kind of like dogs eating children (your words)).
If horses are mauling people to death then, yes, I think we should ban them.
Someone said on a thread that pit bulls are often owned by homosexuals.
I generally enjoy your posts but in this case you're being a real arse.
Probably not as much as you think. If any animal attacks a human, it should be made carrion food in short order. I also doubt the sanity of people who "love" pit bulls, as I find them to be nasty, territorial animals. But hey, that's just me.
The important issue, I think, is a governmental policy that requires a door-to-door roundup of someone else's property without just compensation. After all, the owner had to buy/breed, feed, and clean up after the animal. One day along comes a dog catcher, and *poof*, Fido is on his way to be destroyed.
I absolutely understand a local policy of banning such animals and make it unlawful to bring new dogs of that breed in to the city limits (and violators would have their animals seized without compensation and fined). But if I understood the article correctly, even animals within the city limits before the earlier ban are also being destroyed... IE no grandfather clause for owners who have already invested their time and money on the "forbidden" animals.
So essentially, it all boils down to what the government of Denver thinks is "just". I find taking property (whether it is a gun, a car, money or a dog) to be unjust.
APf
I just couldn't be me if I didn't piss off everyone at least once =)
I believe I am correct in stating that their jaws lock when they bite. I think that is one of the big concerns in that you can't get them off someone.
i thought his comment was right on target. While living in Chicago i often saw young punks parading down the street with pits. Making up for their lack of manhood.
Fair enough. I see where you are coming from..
The gun is controlled by a person. Pit bulls that attack aren't, they're bred to be psycho. If any damn dog in my neighborhood goes after a kid of mine, it's a-hunting we will go.
Really poor analogy. People riding and working horses are interacting with the horses by their own volition.
The boy who's killed riding his bike down the street, the little girl who's mauled while playing in the neighbor's yard, the woman who's killed going to her apartment in San Francisco -- were not placed in contact with a pitbull dog by their own volition.
If we're going to ban pit bulls, maybe we'd better go after all of the other dogs that top the stats list for bites every year, like German shepherds, chows, rotts and labs. While were at it, lets ban any dog that's ever killed a child like pekingese and Jack Russels (both have killed babies in the last few years). Hell, let's just ban all of the dogs as long as we're diving into nannyhood.
How many people are killed every year in the US by dogs? Maybe 20 out of 290,000,000? How many of those 20 are pit bulls?
