I too have struggled with my feelings about Dean. I love him. The venomous hatred that has been inherent in the Democratic character has rarely seen the light of day. Alec Baldwin threatening Henry Hyde's life on late night television is one rare memory. With Dean he puts a face and voice to the mean spiritness which has been under the surface for years. He both represents and serves his party. But if the goal of National Democratic Party is to be taken seriously enough to get back in the mainstream of national elections, then he does them no service. If the head of the Democratic Party cannot be taken seriously, how can the party be taken seriously? Howard Dean, the perfect poster boy for extremism. Where I come from they would say Dean is not welcome to polite company, but hey whoever characterized the Democratic Party as polite company.
