In a 1998 interview, Doohan was asked if he ever got tired of hearing the line "Beam me up, Scotty." "I'm not tired of it at all," he replied. "Good gracious, it's been said to me for just about 31 years. It's been said to me at 70 miles an hour across four lanes on the freeway. I hear it from just about everybody. It's been fun." Wow. They don't make celebrities like that anymore.
RIP Scotty

RIP.
I didn't know he was a D-Day vet. Sounds like a class act all the way.
I'll have to watch a Scotty episode from season 1 tonight.

I remember an Irish blessing he gave at a con once: "If you were any more loved or perfect you'd have to be dead."

I met him once. He was very cordial. I asked him if he really played the pipes in the final scene of Star Trek II. He replied with a twinkle in his eye, "No, laddie, I just moved my fingers a bit."

I hope he beamed up and not the other direction. I wonder if he is with that big vulcan looking god now from Star Trek V or VI or whatever one it was.

The less said about Star Trek V the better!! :-D Only good thing in it is Kirk saying to Spock, "You made that up!"

Hear hear. Well worth raising a parting glass. (And I
am quite fond of Balvenie, especially the 21-yr. Port Wood...)
A long, dark age ago, when I worked in the comics industry, I frequently traveled to conventions where folks like Jimmy Doohan were featured as Guests of Honor. I never met anyone who had an unkind word to say about him, and never knew him to be anything but a true gentleman who was unfailingly gracious to fans and professionals alike (and I never knew any fellow pros who weren't also fans when it came to Jimmy Doohan).
Requiescat in pacem. May flights of angels sing thee...

Heck, If you had to be typecast wouldn't it awesome for this to occur on one of the greatest programs in TV history!
Godspeed, Mr. Doohan.

How sad! He was always a favorite of mine. He's the only castmember I ever met, too. Nice guy.
Godspeed, James
