"Immigration is about R-A-C-E and the politics of R-A-C-E, there was virtually no talk about economics when the '65 disaster was passed. It's supporters mostly consist of those who are actual white-hating racists and those, like the good folks at the WSJ, who are objectively white-hating racists."
Right you are.
And we are becoming, day by day, more like the countries from whence the mass of the immigrants come. The mass of the immigrants are from the third world, have no concept of democratic institutions, are difficult to assimilate, are poorly educated, and are a drain on this country. The 1965 immigration law must be scrapped and a sensible one put in its place, one that limits immigration to highly skilled, well educated people actually needed in this country. (And no immigrants from terrorist producing countries need apply, period.)
"But, you say, the Minimum Wage is too low, $6.25 per hour here in Kalifornia. No one can live on $6.25 an hour."
This was a more or less quote from our do-gooders to justify raising the minimum wage and welfare.
Actually, I agree with most of your response. Frankly, I work about 12 hours a day six days a week. Most people could do pretty well on the minimum wage, if they put in more hours.
The problem is welfare, in my view.
Take care and have a great day!
Thank you. Always pleased to have an informed discussion with a fellow FReeper. You have a good day as well, and best of luck to you and yours. Cheers!
"Any time a law exists and is ignored, all laws are less respected. "
That is the crux of the problem. Currently, illegal immigration makes a mockery of all minimum wage, OSHA, DMV, workers comp, state citizenship, etc. laws. Congress already has an immigration law on the books, if it isn't enforced, why would the next law be enforced. The Wall Street Journal better wise up, no one is advocating stopping immigration, but if it is not made legal one way or the other all hell will break loose.
