I think you are right about Rehnquist. From all accounts, he thought highly of Roberts. I think Rehquist will retire at the end of the next session (he doesn't want to leave the court mid-session, leaving it evenly split.)

I hope his health will allow him to make it.

Health is the factor...I think he might even step aside after only a few months this session.
