LONDON - Laurel Aitken, the man known as Britain's "Godfather of Ska," has died of a heart attack in Leicester, England at age 78.

London's Club Ska said Aitken, also known as "Boss Skinhead," died Sunday night at Glenfield Hospital, Punknews.org reported Tuesday.

Aitken was born April 22, 1927, in Cuba and moved with his father to Jamaica in 1938.

Too bad! I'm a big fan on early ska and rocksteady. I've always liked him and Desmond Dekker a lot. RIP...

PS- For those of you not aware of it, Trojan Records is selling a lot of really great box sets for next to nothing right now.

Justin Hinds also sadly left us not too long ago.

The level of musicianship, soul and innovation that grew out of Jamaica via Ska, Rocksteady, early Reggae, and Dub is remarkable.

Unfortunately, when Natty Dread came to town the music took a turn for the worse.
