• at the very end of this time some (non-)issue will spring up magically, like Diana from Zeus' brow
• "concerned" Dems like Barbara Boxer will plead that they need more time and shouldn't rush to judgment, it's a lifetime appointment, what's the hurry, blah blah blah....

...and this time the GOP won't buckle.

At the risk of pointing out the obvious, this is a good point to, uh, make a point if it hasn't been pointed out.   ;^)

That is, the Dim's whole exercise of dragging these appointees through the briar patch is to create a slip-up. To badger the witness, so to speak, into making a less than eloquent statement that can be turned into a sound bite for the media enablers. Create an embarrassing moment, not only for the nominee, but probably more importantly, for "W".

Our guys probably realize this, but maintaining their cool under fire is the most important single thing Roberts, or any nominee can take to the hearings.
