Yesterday, I called the regional office of INS to complain about a local construction company's hiring of illegal immigrants. The person I spoke with suggested that I personally verify each and every worker's eligibility, and report back to her.
My question to her was: Should I ask the employer for copies of I-9's, or go onto the worksite and ask each worker for proof of a work permit or green card? She suggested that I-9's are a part of an employee's personnel file, and that the employer is not obligated to make them available to me or anyone else outside the government.
That put us right back where we started, and I asked why someone from INS, with the authority to look into the situation, couldn't look into it. She told me that she could only suggest that I call the employer and take his word whether his employees are working legally.
I next asked what I should do if I learned from the workers that they weren't working legally. She said there was nothing an individual could do except file a report with the regional office. She would not speculate how long it would take for them to investigate the problem.
Again, enforce the existing laws. Passing new law is only smoke and mirrors. Cornyn must be running for something.

That is the favorite dance of the Quislings: the "Not My Job Two-Step."
Quisling: a synonym for traitor, someone who collaborates with the invaders of his country.

Yeah, it's just a blame game, putting folks on hold forever, etc. Clearly, the government doesn't give s sh!t about this problem.
But I predict it will come back and bite them in the butt big time. We may very well have The Hildabeaste in the White House come 2008 because of this crap.
The American public at large is getting mighty fed up with this. Not a good thing.
I'd suggest you call or write Cornyn's office (don't email, too easily ignored), tell them your story and ask, specifically, what in this bill will solve your problem. The answer should be enlightening.
